A local supplier of steel products has been certified as an Outstanding Female Business Enterprise.
Cascade Township-based Mill Steel Co., owned by President and CEO Pam Heglund, said Wednesday (Feb. 9) that it had received its national certification as an Outstanding Women’s Business (EWBE) by the Women’s Business Enterprise. National Council (WBENC). With revenues of more than $500 million, the company is among the top 2% WBEs in the United States, Mill Steel said.
“We are always looking for ways to improve our customer service and meet the needs of modern steel buyers. This certification allows us to help companies meet their supplier diversity goals and aligns with our commitment to foster diversity,” said Heglund.
WBENC is the largest certifier of women’s business enterprises in the United States and an advocate for women business owners, leaders, and entrepreneurs. Its certification process includes a thorough review and site inspection of the business seeking accreditation, designed to confirm that the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by women.
Heglund took over ownership of Mill Steel, the company founded by his grandfather, in early 2021.
Mill Steel said it looks forward to growing its relationships with like-minded businesses and government agencies that want to demonstrate their commitment to supplier diversity by including women-owned businesses among their suppliers.
